During 2019-2020 course, Montessori Subirats has 4 groups of children that cover an educational offer ranging from 6 months to 9 years old (3rd grade). The school will grow every year until reaching high school (18 years) in 2028-2029 course.
Following the Montessori method, we have mixed age classrooms. Students are grouped in up to three year groups, which are established as follows:
Each new year, the group's oldest students pass to the next group, while 8 new young students come from the previous group. However, if a child needs more time, or if he is ready and wants to change to the next group in the middle of the school year, we can adapt to their needs.
All the groups have two adults: a Montessori Guide and Montessori Assistant.
Their task is to attend to the basic needs of children, both physically (especially in the Nido and Infant Community groups, where they need accompaniment in hygiene and feeding) and emotionally, to ensure they are in a state of well-being that allows them to take the initiative of their learning. During most of the daytime both adults are simultaneously with the group, including lunch time.
The Guide is the main person responsible for the group, to accompany their learning and development and monitor their progress. The Guide speaks catalan and acts as a link between the child and the environment, making sure to prepare and revise so that the materials are always in place, complete and in good condition. They are also the person in charge of detecting when a child is ready to use a new material and to present it to the student.
The Assistant speaks only English to communicate with the children. Together with the Guide, they are tasked with keeping the materials and the environment in good condition so that materials are always available and in optimal conditions (replenishing, arranging, etc.). The Assistant is also in charge of assuming the Guide responsibilities in case the Guide is absent for a short period of time. As a deep connoisseur of each student and daily class dynamics, guarantees pedagogical continuity without sudden changes until the Guide is back. As a native english speaker, they also carry out activities in the language area.
